Nominated by Jimmy Mock The Sentinel Oak is a champion Live Oak located at the Baptist Village Retirement Community in Waycross, GA, address 2650 Carswell Avenue. This tree has served as a symbol to the community since it was founded in 1957. Thousands of residents and untold visitors have marveled at its size and beauty. The Davey Tree Company adopted the tree in 1967 and measured it at 366 inches in circumference, 77 feet tall, and a crown spread of 155 feet. Its current circumference was recently measured at a remarkable 433 inches. This tree has been on the cover of countless publications and websites, a National Champion, and a State Champion since 2000. This tree is a true giant of Waycross.
