I was just in California and I drifted over to Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens in Claremont in Southern California and stumbled upon the “Majestic” Oak (Quercus agrifolia).  I wish I took a picture because it would have been fantastic to post on The Grove, but let it just be said that the tree is appropriately named.  It had branches the size of most very large trees that reached out and then intertwined out towards the perimeter of the canopy.  I am originally from California, and I was surprised to see all the varieties of oak in the garden.  My friend talked about “Red” oaks and “white” oaks, which really confused me.  He was from Santa Barbara.   I wonder what varieties he was referring to?  Can anyone that knows California Tree vernacular translate that into Latin Names?
