How to Celebrate Arbor Day in Smyrna

On Saturday, February 17th from 10:00-12:00, Keep Smyrna Beautiful, Parks and Recreation along with the City of Smyrna Tree Board will host an Arbor Day Celebration in Cooper Lake Park located at 4201 Cooper Lake Rd. Following a dedication of the trees, tree planting instruction will be provided by Joe Burgess, Senior Urban Forester. You will have an opportunity to help plant a tree near the newly installed playground. Keep Smyrna Beautiful will have an information booth and will pass out red bud seedlings to those who want them as long as supplies last. The Tree Board will have a children’s activity table. Light refreshments will be served.
When visiting the Community Center at 200 Village Green Circle, be sure to stop by the Keep Smyrna Beautiful display area in the foyer. Featured there will be fun tree facts, treevia, and other helpful information on trees. Be sure to take a stroll around the lake in the Native Tree Arboretum which adjoins the Community Center.
Arbor Day is a celebrated in all 50 states. The most common observance on the last Friday in April; however, Georgia’s Arbor Day is celebrated on the third Friday in February to coincide the day with the best tree planting weather. This year the date is February 16th but Smyrna’s Arbor Day will be celebrated on the 17th to accommodate work schedules.
