Are Cherry Laurels protected in Florida?

Hi folks, I'm working on a project where we need to make 'paths' through a stand of Cherry Laurel trees. It is my understanding that CL's are native to Florida. But are they 'protected' ? I'm looking for information that outlines my responsibilities in regard to cutting down CL's and trimming others. This project is taking place in a preserve, where walking trails have already been carved out. Also, assuming the trail is 10' wide, how long would it take for the CL's to over take the trail…

  • Last year, the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (Council) polled attendees at the Partners in Community Forestry Conference in Pittsburgh and learned that you'd like to have more input into Council activities. We listened to your feedback and have worked diligently this year to gather additional input from our Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) constituencies throughout the country. As we prepare to finalize the 2016 UCF Challenge Cost Share Grant Program, please take the time to complete this brief survey and help inform the categories for our next grant cycle!

Please feel free to forward this link to anyone that you think might be interested in participating.

  • The FUFC's Urban Forest Instatute is going to be a good sourse of information.  Unfortunatly, I will not be able to attend but my company is sponsoring a person from our cities government to attend.  I couldn't think of a better donation than an education to help preserve our urban forest.

  • Hey all you fellow Grovers,

In case you haven't heard, the Tour des Trees bicycle ride raises money for the TREE Fund (TREE = Tree Research Education Endowment Fund). This Fund supplies money to reserachers like Drs. Monica Elliott, Ed Gilman, Nina Bassuk, Nelda Matheny, etc to research urban trees - their care, health, and survival. Also supplying scholarship money to students of Urban Forestry and Arboriculture.

I ride in the Tour. To do so I am obligated to raise $3500 for the TREE Fund.

Please consider donating to my ride. Any amount helps, and every dollar you donate goes directly to tree research. The Tour itself is totally sponsor supported.

You can click on the link below to go directly to my Donation page.

Please consider supporting the Tour des Trees. You can go to for our route map, daily itinerary, and a bunch more information.

    Thank you!

The 2011 Partners in Community Forestry National Conference heads to Central Florida, The Partners Conference serves as the national platform for sharing best practices, innovations and models of successful urban forestry programs and projects. Your Florida Urban Forestry Council has been hard at work coordinating with Conference leaders and local partners to showcase Central Florida's urban forest.  You will not want to miss this!!  The University of Central Florida will be hosting a Tree Campus Summit, the City of Orlando in conjunction with the Orlando Utilities Commission will take attendees through the streets and around the lakes on several guided bus tours, and Keep Orlando Beautiful and Green Up Orlando are partnering with the Alliance for Community Trees and CSX Transportation for some volunteer tree plantings.  Additional partners include Greenscape of Jacksonville, City of Winter Park, and Orange County IFAS.
