Public image, citizen pride and financial assistance are just a few of the many benefits a city has when it becomes part of Tree City USA. Being a part of the program is an indication to prospective businesses and citizens that the area is committed to its neighborhoods’ quality of life. The program can also influence company decisions about where to hold conferences and meetings, bringing added revenue to the community.
In addition, Tree Cities often gain preference in grant and funding allocation for programs that deal specifically with trees and forestry initiatives. The Tree City USA® program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that are home to more than 135 million Americans.
