Yes, I spelled it correctly. Here in St Louis County, we have a tree nursery that supplies trees for public and nonprofit property all over the state of Missouri. Forest Releaf was founded in 1993 and to date has distributed over 77,000 trees. In 2111, an EF-5 tornado struck Joplin. Since then, Forest Releaf has provided 3,500 trees to the city of Joplin.
In addition to growing trees, Forest Releaf conduct education in the form of Treekeeper classes, support of Forestkeepers and workshops. Recently, Forest Releaf has been developing videos for general education.
As Forest Releaf has only three employees and, at present, 14,000 trees in it nursery, much of the maintenance work of weeding, staking and pruning is done by a few dozen volunteers. In the spring, the potting of thousands of trees is done by various groups who volunteer a Saturday morning.
On April 2010, Forest ReLeaf of Missouri was the winner of the state’s Missouri Arbor Award of Excellence.
