Washington Yu Ying PCS posted a statusWe are a full immersion, bi-lingual Mandarin/English public school in Washington, DC. Recently we moved into our permanent home in the Brookland neighborhood of Ward 5 and found ourselves the proud new owners of several acres of impressive urban forest. In order to be good stewards of our new land, we'll be removing invasive species, replanting the understory and adding several outdoor classrooms for our students to enjoy. Hello again, The Grove!
We here at Yu Ying have been working hard on the final cleanup and replanting for 2012, in our Nature Center. Our one acre lot is now (almost) free of trash and permeable paths have been installed to allow students a safer and more beautiful walk to the school. Yu Ying's Nature Center saw its second big volunteer day last weekend and if the first weekend was entirely too hot, there were certainly none of those complaints this weekend....bad news is the complaints just shifted to the rain that fell the entire day, slowing the process. The good news is that we were able to follow the master plan created with our sustainability partners and install crush stone paths, drainage channels, outdoor classrooms and begin work on the stormwater runoff…

Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School moved into its permanent home at 220 Taylor Street, NE in the fall of 2011.
