I plant trees because....
A redbud tree was planted for our dear friend, Mike Manning, one of the founders of the Georgia Grove, who fought a tough battle with lung cancer.
My husband and I also planted a willow for our baby girl, Kendall Marie, in our backyard. The willow is a cutting from some branches used to decorate the head table at our wedding. It was beautiful!

Sad to hear of the passing of Wangari Maathai, an inspiration to tree planters worldwide. I was fortunate to hear her speak at the Society of American Foresters National Conference in Pittsburgh, PA in 2006. She was was elected an honorary member of the Society of American Foresters in recognition of her distinguished service to forestry.

Hi Susan, thanks for the welcome.  Things have been a little crazy this last in Bismarck.  Summer long flood and wind storms kept us busy.  My crews spent most of the year cleaning up two parks.  Over 1,300 trees lost in those two areas.  How have you been?  I have been out of the loop with many friends and hope to change that next year.  I am looking forward to a "normal" year.  Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks for the welcome and for your outstanding efforts with this Susan! I'm looking forward to getting folks from WY on board. This is also a great way for states to stay connected.

Hi Susan - I was having fun poking around the Grove and found the NUCFAC projects site. Saw that Georgia Extension developed some UF training products for master gardeners. I've been discussing doing just that here is WA. Do you know of the products? or someone who I could contact about them?

We are excited about the Grove, and love the bags :)

Susan,  Thanks for the welcome note.  It's going well here in New Mexico.  Spending some time to set-up our site in prep. for the launch on Monday.  Thanks for making this program such a success in your state and the south.  We're excited about the opportunities it will provide all of us in the west.  Hope all is well for you.  Have a great weekend! - Lance

Hi Susan,

Yeah finally our City is a Tree City!   In the ten year Strategic plan they have also committed to an Urban Forestry Management Plan.

Task 13A

Create an urban forest management plan to assess Decatur’s

existing tree canopy, recommend strategies for protection,

maintenance, and new tree plantings, and revise the city’s tree

ordinance.

Ha! Found it, I'm officially "In" now. Thanks for the note. I was actually looking around on The Grove because we are discussing social media at the next Great State to Serve meeting (the group that is facilitating the Employee Satisfaction work with the Office of Customer Service). We'll be talking about Facebook, Twitter and YouTube; The Grove will be a great addition. Can I send you what we get together to get your opinion?

RPI is awesome, we're having a lot of fun so far! And Congrats on your recent news!

Susan...its official. We will be hosting volunteers for a tree planting project on our campus. The event is part of the Gwinnett Great Day of Service campaign in conjunction with HandsOnAtlanta. Our project will take place on Friday October 1 from 9am to 1pm. Depending on the number of volunteers we hope to plant 50 trees in various areas of the campus. We plan to have an early morning educational event sponsored by Horticulture as well as the planting effort. Please tell your folks to visit the HandsOnAtlanta site to sign up......I look forward to seeing you in October.

Gail
