Thanks to Annie Hermansen of the US Forest Service's InterfaceSouth for sharing this.... The World Resources Institute (WRI), a center for policy research and analysis, released a new map that identifies hotspots where urban and suburban developments are putting forests at risk in the southern United States. Areas that experienced the most forest loss to development between 2001 and 2006 were counties near Houston, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, San Antonio, Jacksonville, and Birmingham.The…See More

Storm-damaged Tree Nursery Reopens

New release about the Morgan Country Tree Nursery, which was severley damaged in this month's Kentucky tornados.  Frnkfort, Ky. (March 22, 2012) -- The Morgan County Tree Nursery, owned and operated by the Kentucky Division of Forestry, is now open for those customers who made prior arrangements to pick up their orders. Volunteers Plant Trees on Reclaimed Mine Lands

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - Volunteers have planted hundreds of trees on reclaimed mine land in eastern Kentucky.The project is part of an initiative by the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign that set a goal in 2009 of planting one tree for every person on Earth.
