Oregon lost a true treasure when Maynard Drawson passed away in December at age 87. Many, many people throughout the state knew Maynard, sometimes affectionately as “Maynard the Tree Man”. He was a passionate and tireless advocate of trees and history who made Oregon a better place for all of us. Maynard walked into my office one day about 17 years ago and said that we should start a statewide heritage tree program. Of course, I was interested, but as you can imagine, state agencies don’t…See More

Summer Reading

If you're looking for a good book for your summer reading list, I recommend "Last Child in the Woods" by Richard Louv.  He talks about 'nature-deficit disorder' and how we need to get kids back in touch with nature.

"Thanks paul. I found out that it is suppose to get upto 10 -15 ft tall. It has always looked sad. I had the same type of tree in San Jose  and it was 3/4 shaded. Could it be that my sad maple is getting too much sun?"

Hey Paul,

I recalled that TBU is by invitation only.  I will send invites to those members whose wall you left a comment on.  I am assuming you are able to invite members as well, the "invite" button should be next to "options" in the TBU group on the top right.  We can discuss next week.  Have a great weekend.  Neil

Hey Paul,

I see many of Tree Board University folks are joining.  That is great.  Some users get confused where to locate groups so I usually say something like; "Join the Tree Board University Group by following the link and then click "join Tree Board University group" in the upper right."  Have a great weekend.  Neil

Hi Paul. Good to hear from you. The job is going great! I have been in post for nearly a year. I have met a lot of people but I still have a lot more to meet. I cover six counties so I'm pretty busy.

If you check out my page you will see that I wrote a short story about my Urban Forestry 350 class project. I won $200 for Florida urban Forestry Council :)
