In appreciation of the live oak

Over eighty tree enthusiasts gathered together at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah on May 17 to learn more about and honor the stately live oak.  Attendees enjoyed talks by Dr. Kim Coder, Dr. Don Ham, arborist Michael Murphy, City of Savannah's Bill Haws, and Bartlett's Shannon Baughman.  During the day, everyone boarded open-air trolleys and took a three-hour-tour to view some of Savannah's most historic live oaks, including the Avenue of Oaks at Wormsloe Historic Site, the Candler Oak,…See More

An American in Paris - Even the trees are chic

On a recent memorable trip to Paris, France, I took lots of photos of beautiful trees in addition to historic sites. In the Luxembourg Gardens and other select areas, Parisian tree keepers prune some of the foliage into high, dramatic shapes of uniform green boxes, allowing the foliage to weave together through a technique, I learned later, called pleaching.  Truly elegant!  What do you think or know about this technique?  Are there any American cities that do similar shapings of their…See More

Trees Columbus Calls for Flash Mob of Volunteers to Plant Trees!

No problem, thought I had joined a while back, must have been when it was only the georgia grove? would those who joined then have had their memberships transfered to the american grove? if not, maybe something to alert people to. i recirculated the message to our office and friends to join american grove in any event.
