Olea Europaea - A Beautiful Sacred Tree

The European olive tree is one of my favorites, not only for the delicious and extremely useful fruit it produces, but also for  remarkable texture, color, and drought tolerance.  Trailing is a link to a short story on the origins of the olive tree, along with a picture of a grand ole tree that survived transplanting to a new winery in Calistoga, CA.  My guess is this tree is at least 150 years old.…See More

Was it worth it?

I have attached a video of the transplanting of a very large historic tree in Louisiana. This tree was moved to accomodate the widening of a road.  I am told that the cost to move this tree was over $200,000. Perhaps one our members from Louisiana can confirm this. At first blush I was very impressed by the effort, thinking this is a strong commitment to the preservation of nature and history.  Then I started to think, maybe that 200K could have planted 1000 nice tree and had a profound impact…See More

Hmmm, I still view the photos.   When I go to "Blog" on top menu all blogs with photos are still there.  Send me the link of a blog where you cannot see the picture and I will investigate further.  If you noticed they are already restored it could have been a hiccup in Ning's servers.

Hi Ed, Glennlake Park is looking great, the tree planting and creek restoration is inspirational! I do wish they waited to plant until the fall, but I know that would create all kinds of publicity problems.
