The City of Montgomery, Alabama used US Forest Service funds awarded through the Alabama Forestry Commission to plant 366 eastern cottonwood cuttings as a phytoremediation project. The trees will help extract chlorine solvents that threaten the Alabama River. Over 35,000 square feet of parking lot asphalt was removed for the green infrastructure project.
