I'm sitting on a shaving horse, whittling down the high spots of a cypress shingle the I rived early on that morning.  Using a draw knife.   I'm an expert shigle maker, using oak and bald cypress. (Bet you didn't know that) :)

Bradford pears. What can't go wrong with them! I don't have a good answer for you but I have many times see them appear to be about to die and then they bounce right back and look normal again. I'd advise just waiting to see what it looks like after spring bud break.
