The Louisiana Forestry Teachers' Tour allows for teachers/educators of all subjects, the developers of the children's mind, an opportunity to gain insight to the research, development and implementation of Louisiana's #1 agricultural crop: Timber. Through hands-on tours and one-on-one meetings with federal, state, industry and non-industrial forest personnel, informed decisions may be reached through an unbiased process.

The 4-day workshop is a hands-on, on-the-go workshop that is fun, exciting and informative. From touring a lumber mill founded in 1890 to a state-of-the-art lumber mill, this tour will exposed you to practically all aspects of forestry in Louisiana. We will cover Louisiana's urban forests and learn the value and benefits of our urban forest resource through fun educational activites around an urban forest in the Pineville area.

You will have a chance to see Longleaf pine, Pinus palustris, whose natural area once spread from western Louisiana to southern North Carolina. The management approaches utilized for the threatened and endangered Red-Cockaded woodpecker, Dendrocopos borealis. Also, research development areas, logging sites and product manufacturing are part of the informative tour.
