Comment by John Melvin on August 17, 2012 at 1:20pm Hello Barbara. We have a lot of great things going on in California in Urban Forestry these days. We do, as you have noticed, have issues with improper tree work still. It is a highly mixed bag when it comes to view trimming. Some cities allow it, some don't. My opinion is that the tree is part of the view, and that one should be allowed to plant what they want on their property so long as it causes no physical damage to their neighbor's property. If you would like to get involved in urban forestry in our state in any way, please let me know. I can be reached at john.melvin@fire.ca.gov.

Comment by Barbara Jesse on August 17, 2012 at 2:10am I am a new transplant from Massachusetts where I had been a Tree Warden and have enjoyed the last 18 years as a ISA Certified Arborist. This year I celebrated Arbor Day by attending a great lecture at Tree Of Life Nursery to learn more about California native trees here in southern Orange County. I am stunned by the beauty of the native oaks in natural surroundings. I am saddened by the abusive trees area pruning that surrounds this area for the sake of "the view'.
Comment by Viviann Choate on January 13, 2012 at 5:27pm Hello everyone. I just joined. I have planted around 100 trees by spending my Harris Poll Hi-Points on them. Those trees have been planted all over the world. This is the only way that I can afford to plant trees, and I think it's a pretty good way.

Comment by Nancy Dawson Dollard on July 12, 2011 at 1:10pm Just joined the group. I represent the City of Walnut Creek Open Space in the Bay Area. We are interested in both partnering with other organizations and providing information on how you can get involved with the Open Space Foundation on their oak habitat restoration work. It's a good group involved in hands-on planting and tree care.
