Nominated by Eric Wiseman

This tree is located on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA and is officially known as the “Alwood Oak”, in honor of its namesake Professor William Alwood, who planted the tree in 1895. The tree was officially dedicated to Professor Alwood’s memory on October 14, 2011 as a testament to his contributions to the science of horticulture and the establishment of Virginia Tech. The Alwood Oak is also listed in the Virginia Big Tree Register, recognized as the third largest tree of its kind in the state.
