Event Description

The Fall River Street Tree Inventory is seeking volunteers.

At a special July 16 training, participants will learn about the importance of the urban forest in creating healthier communities, as well as how to identify tree species and tree hazards before heading out into the streets to complete the inventory. Attendees are asked to put in at least 8 to 10 additional volunteer hours over the summer.

The goals of the project are to teach members of the public about trees in an urban environment, engage citizens as tree stewards, assess the state of the city's forest and create a spatial database of street trees for the city.

The training runs from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Government Center's first-floor hearing room. Light snacks will be provided.

Volunteers are asked to sign up at http://goo.gl/fALRv or e-mail Stephanie Hsia at shsia@urbaneco.org.

The Fall River Street Tree Inventory is a volunteer-driven effort lead by Urban Ecology Institute in partnership with the City of Fall River, Fall River Street Tree Planting Program, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
