The 2014 Farm Bill appears to require that federal funding can only be allocated to communities that maintain an “annualized inventory”.
2014 Farm Bill press release by ACT: http://actrees.org/news/trees-in-the-news/newsroom/congress-passes-new-farm-bill-urban-forests-fare-well/
Text is on page 726 of the Farm Bill Section 8301: http://actrees.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Agricultural-Act-2014_conf-report.pdf
"Implement an annualized inventory of trees in urban settings,
including the status and trends of trees and forests,
and assessments of their ecosystem services,
values, health, and risk to pests and diseases."
Can we become able to automate the daily update of our tree database with staff work orders? Must we move away from taking a tree census every decade?
Here's a video of a recent public comment where I explain why a continually updated tree inventory is most efficient. http://youtu.be/zarrQTVD3IA
