Post Oak, a National Big Tree

Species:Quercus stellata

Location:Jackson, Tennessee

It is a special tree because it is a magnificent specimen of a Post Oak that qualifies as the National Big Tree in its category.  I knew the tree existed in Jackson, Tennessee and was always on the lookout for it.  When I passed by it one day, I instantly recognized it from the picture.  I recently contacted a forester to have it officially measured to nominate it for the National Big Tree Registry.

It is 95 feet tall, 17 feet 9 inches in circumference, and has 127 feet crown spread from all four sides.
